View from the West Door The Church interior from the west door.You see before you the shape of a typical parish church with a nave and, at the east end, a chancel.
The Carved Wood Screen Dividing the nave from the chancel is a carved wood (cross) screen probably placed here in 1666 during the reconstruction of the whole building.It is believed that the screen was removed from the private chapel of a neighbouring hall.It is worth noting the tiny heads carved on the screen which probably depict the woodcarver and his family.
The Pilkington Picture A striking feature of the north wall is the so-called Pilkington Picture.The priginal was probably commissioned by Bishop James Pilkington in honour of his father who was the benefactor responsible for the restoration of the church in 1541.The young James Pilkington was ordained in 1542 ...
